ASTO Small Ships Race

7th October 2006

2007 Small Ships berth availability

ASTO (Association of Sea Training Organisations) Small Ships races are for sailing vessels up to 120 feet in length and with at least half the crew being aged 15-25.

John Laing took part in the 2006 race in the Solent, and is currently seeking crew members and sponsors for two Small Ships races in 2007.

The first 2007 race starts on Sunday 27th May in Torquay, and will finish in Guernsey on Friday 1st June. Crew berths cost £350 but OYT South is looking for sponsors so that some of the places can be offered to young people who would not otherwise be able to afford to come. Contact the office if you can help with sponsorship for a deserving young person.

The second 2007 race will take place in the Solent on Saturday 6th October; but in order to allow time for race training, John Laing's crew will join on Tuesday 2nd October in Southampton, where the voyage will finish on Sunday 7th. Cost £325 - sponsors still needed. It has just been decided to set a different age range for this race: it will now be for people aged 12-25 - though we recommend that bookings at the younger end of the age range should consider that this race might be a little more demanding than the average voyage!

See here for information on booking a voyage.

As well as the Small Ships races, John Laing will also be taking part in the 2007 Tall Ships Race series in the Baltic, visiting Denmark, Finland, Sweden and Poland - see here for information on booking a voyage.
